  22.   The first thing I did to my Workbench was to move from the boring 8 colour icons and backdrops of
  23. Magic Workbench to the dazzling 64 colours of NewIcons. This can be found on just about any Aminet/
  24. CUAmiga/AF CD. Those of you ex-CUAmiga Magazine readers will probably recognise the icons I use for
  25. the main directories on my hard drive.

  27.   The next thing was to get ride of the very dull and plain grey screen that is Workbench. To do this
  28. I used a backdrop called 'Satan Inside', this is a very nice and moody backdrop and can be found on
  29. Aminet Set 6 or Set 7, but be warned, after I began using it my Amiga would crash for no reason at
  30. all and give all sorts of weird guru messages. This went on for a few weeks until it suddenly stopped
  31. happening.

  33.   I also gave the windows a backdrop of their own, for this I chose a backdrop creatively called
  34. '01'. This was found on Aminet Set 6 or Set 7, but with a name like '01' it may be hard to find.

  38. Other Programs/Utils I use:
  39.  
  40.       TitleClock - This puts a digital clock in the top bar of the workbench. But for some reason
  41.                    the grab screen util I have used (PictSaver) doesn't grab this. Toolbar clocks
  42.                    can be found on just about any CD that contains utils.
  43.  
  44.       BlitzBlank - Obviously this is a screen blanker and cannot be seen in the screen shot here. I
  45.                    don't know if it is the best there is, but it does it's job and is very
  46.                    configurable. I obtained my copy from a CD called '500 screen savers Volume 2'.

  48.       Lock       - This is a very handy util that allows the user to protect a specific partition(s)
  49.                    from being written to unless it is unlocked first. I use it for my Workbench
  50.                    partition as I am forever installing and removing programs and this prevents me
  51.                    from deleting things I don't really want to delete. I think I got this neat util
  52.                    from an old AUI cover disk.

  54.       NoClick    - This util is a Godsend and without it I'm sure I and many other Amiga users would
  55.                    have been driven mad by the constant clicking of the disk drive. My thanks go to
  56.                    the author who's name eludes me as I can't find the readme file. My copy of
  57.                    NoClick was taken from an old AUI coverdisk.

  59.       NaeGrey    - Although this is a very old program I like it. Basicly NaeGrey removes the grey
  60.                    borders from around the workbench screen, so if like me you use a dark backdrop
  61.                    this program can make it look that bit better. Yet again this util was extracted
  62.                    from an old AUI coverdisk.

  64.   You will have noticed that there are 2 almost identical snapshots of my workbench. The second
  65. snapshot has had the 'No Borders' option in NewIcons Prefs activated, this is currently the screen
  66. I am using. The only problem with this is I have notice that older icons tend to get psychedelic
  67. colours for some reason and the black in the backdrop that I use turned a bit lighter. This prompted
  68. me to slightly modify the colours of the backdrop so that it looked better on my workbench. Also you
  69. can actually see the digital clock in the top right hand corner of the screen.

  71.   Well that's my workbench for you. I hope you like it and has given you a few ideas for your own
  72. workbench. The three backdrops 'SatanInside_01', 'SatanInside_02' and '01' can be found in this
  73. directory.
